The Firehall Theatre was built in 1909 as the #1 Fire Hall for the City of Vancouver. It served as a fully functioning fire hall right up until the 1960's. When the new firehall was built on 12th Ave near City Hall, the building was leased to the Theatre Society. Since that time, the Firehall has housed many notable plays. During restoration the building had to be completely repointed, and the sheet metal capitals were repaired and coated to match the existing structure. All of the windows were refurbished and new cast sandstone window sills were replicated and installed.
